MANICURE MUSE: Chanel Haute Couture Spring ‘12

Uncle Karl’s got the blues and it’s clear from his Spring Couture collection. Set in a space shuttle, our main man streamlined new modern silhouettes and textiles down the runway. You would never guess it, but this spectacular graphic giraffe print maxi is actually made of shimmery cellophane. Uncle Karl never fails to impress!

To emulate this look, I used “Midnight Blue” by Sinful, “Blingtastic” by Sally Hansen Gem Crush, and White by Art club.

1. Paint your nail dark midnight blue

2. Paint another coat of blue glitter

3. Using a thin white nail art brush or a white nail art pen, draw irregular connecting squares all over the nail

4. Top it off with Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat

EYE OF THE WORLD FALL/WINTER 2011

This is just too good. Using natural and reclaimed woods, Eye Of The World Designs creates accessories of unique, organic beauty.

The breathtaking collection you see below is actually a collaboration between knitwear designer Brooke Roberts, fashion stylist Hope von Joel, and wood craftsman Liam Moyter, the latter two of which make up Eye Of The World Designs. The trio find their inspiration from innovative designers of the past, like Pierre Cardin and Paco Rabanne, whose aesthetics embodied a sleek modernism and usage of unexpected materials. Who would’ve thought a wooden belt would be so appealing?!

The how to.
In creating this dotted eye makeup look on model Sophie Van Den Akker, makeup artist Shev Kelly from Napoleon Perdis kept the face fresh and flawless, making the sequins the key feature. She was kind enough to share detailed how-to steps with us on how to create the look.

Prime
Start the look by applying a moisturiser and primer to the face. We applied Napoleon Complex Skin Renewal Serum to the entire face using Artist Foundation Brush 19b, before adding Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer to the face.
Prep lips with Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Lip Service.
Apply your first coat of Mascara. We used Napoleon Perdis Mesmer-eyes Mascara, using both sides of the Mesmer-eyes Mascara brush (begin with the wider comb to apply your mascara and separate the lashes with the finer comb.)

Base
Using a foundation brush (we used Napoleon Perdis Artist Foundation Brush 19b), apply foundation to the ‘feature focus’ area of the face (the triangle of features – eyes, nose & lips) and blend well so it disappears into the jaw line. On Sophie we used Napoleon Perdis Sheer Genius Foundation.
Conceal dark circles – we chose to use the Napoleon Perdis Mighty Concealer Pen – under eye area to hide any darkness or discolouration. Be sure to warm the concealer into the skin with your finger tip.
Apply a touch of concealer across the entire eye lid from the lash line to the brow bone and set with a touch of Napoleon Perdis Camera Finish, creating a matte base for your eye shadow.
Lightly set the foundation across the ‘feature focus’ area of the face with Napoleon Perdis Camera Finish.

Eyes
For the eyes use two eye shadow colours: one nude, and one in a matching colour to the sequin. We used Napoleon Perdis Contour Brush 16b to sweep Napoleon Perdis Color Disc Skinny Dip from lash line to brow bone.
To highlight the inner corner of the eyes, we used Napoleon Perdis Color Disc Sparkling Bubbly.
Apply two coats of mascara to the top lashes and one coat to the lower lashes.

Brows
Comb the brows upwards and outwards with a clean mascara wand then define with an eyebrow pencil. For Sophie’s brows we used Napoleon Perdis Chocoholic.
Set unruly brows in place with a clear mascara such as Napoleon Perdis Peep Show Mascara Madame Crystal.

Cheeks
First add some contour. We used Napoleon Perdis Finishing Powder Brush s25 to apply Napoleon Perdis Ultimate Contour Palette Contour underneath the cheekbone.
With a blush brush such as Napoleon Perdis Chisel Blush Brush 22b, apply a soft blush to the apples of the cheek, adding that soft peachy flush. On Sophie we used Napoleon Perdis Color Disc Orange Sherbet.
If using the Napoleon Perdis Color Disc Skinny Dip as your nude eye colour, you can also use it to highlight the top of the cheekbones.

Lips
Using a lip brush (we used Napoleon Perdis Compact Lip Brush 2b), coat the lips with a soft coral lip colour. Sophie wears Napoleon Perdis DeVine Goddess Lipstick Lianna mixed with a small amount of Napoleon Perdis Luminous Lip Veil Rare Opal.

Sequin
Take two small gold sequins and cut each in half.
Using lash glue, press half a sequin in the centre of the top lash line, and the other half of the sequin into the lower lash line.

Beautifully photographed by Kelly Defina with hair by Annika Bowen and styling by Mercy Watson, you can see more pictures of Sophie Van Den Akker wearing the dotted sequin eye makeup look by clicking on the thumbnails below.
